About Artist

My practice centers around painting and drawing, with a focus on the natural world- its elements, environments, and the intricate forms of flora and fauna. As a mixed media artist, I work with acrylic paints, pencils, markers, ink and multiple forms of canvases to explore the tension and harmony between the organic and the imagined. My brushstrokes express different intensities and feelings as some can be softer and others more chaotic, and the colors I work with are always bold and rich. Each work reflects an aspect of the world around us through lens of curiosity, intuition, and experimentation as I combine realism with a twist of the surreal.

Whether the pieces are produced as commissions or personal projects, I start with a concept and make selections in what materials will be used to best depict it. Some recurring themes include environmental consciousness, nature as a source of peace and healing, the sublime, capturing a memory involving landscapes or animals, and our connection to the world. As we move deeper into technology, I return to nature as both subject and source to remind viewers of the wonders we might neglect.

My work is driven by the desire to reconnect with what is elemental, not only in a physical sense but emotionally and psychologically too. It's easy to forget that we live in a magical place and we may take certain aspects of the world for granted, so I keep this in mind as I allow my process to guide outcome.
